Simply
speaking, a pull tab consists of two pieces
of paper that are printed on three sides and
glued together. The front, face, or payout
side of the pull tab is a ‘coated’
paper which displays the prizes a player attempts
to win. The face also shows the combination
of symbols, which denotes the "ways to
win". The back of the ticket has perforated
windows which "open here" to display
the symbols, or "inset" of the ticket.
If the symbols printed on the inside of the
ticket match the winning combinations on the
face, the player wins. It’s that simple-Open
Here and win!
At Universal Manufacturing Company, pull
tabs are constructed with high quality heavy
paper, which exceeds industrial standards
and assures total security—no one
can see through the coated and printed paper
to identify winning symbols before opening
the perforated windows.
Clear and precise printing in bright colors
and exciting graphic designs begins to manufacturing
process. From beginning to end, everything
must be precise so the symbols inside the
finished pull tabs are in the right place
when players open the perforated windows.
After printing, each set, or deal, of tickets
is serialized via state-of-the-art ink jet
technology for accuracy and placement. Then
the sheets are glued together or laminated
to seal the tickets. Next, the windows are
perforated by a special high-speed, die-cutting
procedure. The finished sheets are then
passed through computerized cutters, and
the individual pull tabs are packed by trained
workers to guarantee random distribution
of winners. Attractive point of sale pieces,
"flares", are added and the deal
of pull tabs is shrink-wrapped, security
sealed and cased for shipment.
